Vigna radiata

Suggested Planting Requirements: Our package of mung beans allows gardeners to plant the beans to produce a larger amount of seeds that they then can use for sprouting. Many gardeners buy Mung beans for both sprouting and planting. As part of the legume family, this plant can help to fixate nitrogen into the soil.

Growing Recommendations: Legumes like well-drained soil rich in organic matter and a moderate amount of nutrients.  Water lightly at planting, medium at flowering, and heavily throughout harvest time.  Soak beans for 24 hours before planting for expedited germination.

Sprouting instructions:  Place seeds in a glass jar in indirect light and soak for  4-12 hours. After soaking, pour out the water and rinse. Leave the jar resting in a dish or bowl to catch any water that drains out.  During the sprouting process it is recommended that you rinse twice daily. This ensures that the seeds are kept wet and in fresh water. If they are not rinsed often enough, they can mold or rot. After 3-4 days when desired length in sprout is reached, they are ready to eat.

Harvesting & Storage of Beans: Pick regularly to extend harvest period. Harvest when beans are mature and dry. These dry beans can be stored in a dark cool place until they are to be used for sprouting.
