An Italian heirloom beet, the Chioggia beet is one of the most beautiful with a great flavor.  Like all beets, this root crop can be planted year-round in many southern California gardens making it a garden essential. Use this beet fresh in salads to show off its unique and beautiful spiral colored flesh. You can also pickle, roast and sauté them.

Suggested Planting Requirements:  Soil for beets should have a pH level between 6.0 and 8.0.  Ideal soil is loose, sandy and well drained.  Consistent watering is essential for good established roots systems.  Direct sowing is recommended.

Growing Recommendations: Plant seeds in the cool season in freshly worked soil.  

Harvesting & Storage: You can harvest and eat greens in salads or harvest the root when it has reached a desirable size.
