Gaillardia aristata

Gaillardias are wonderful plants that produce a massive amount of starry blooms in variations of colors. Planting Gaillardia in the garden will add a kaleidoscope of color that bees and beneficial insects will love.

Gaillardia grows in low mounds on the ground and can be planted in your perennial bed for lasting color. Gaillardia can be quiet drought tolerant but benefit from some irrigation in very dry areas. Seeds can be sown 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your area if you have a frost. For mild winter areas, you can plant seeds in pots in the early spring to be transplanted out when the soil warms mid-spring.

Where to grow: This perennial plant should be given an adequet spacing of at least 12″. Since it is a low growing plant, plant in the front of your flower bed or on the edges where it will not get shaded out from taller plants.

Attracts: Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, honey bees and beneficial insects.

Soil: Adaptable to various soil types, but needs good drainage and can benefit from a bit of bloom fertilizer.
