There are three types of celery. Stem or Stalk celery like this variety. These are cultivated for the stems to be used in cooking. Celery Root or Celeriac is type of celery that is prized for it’s starchy root that is used in soups and stews. Chinese celery looks like a herb and is grown for it’s aromatic leaves. This type sometimes is called soup or leaf celery.
Special Germination instructions:
Celery seeds are small and should be planted close to the surface. Light helps aid in the germination of celery seeds, so cover lightly with soil. If starting your seeds in starts, you can cover the seed trays with plastic to create a mini greenhouse and hold in moisture. Once seeds have sprouted, remove plastic to prevent bacteria growth.
Special Care Tips:
In areas that get hot days in the winter, we recommend keeping shade cloth handy to keep your celery cool. You may want to mulch to retain moisture.
